Americans Sweden’s President Lauren Ell was featured in Norrbotten-based media outlet NSD on August 8, 2026 to discuss cleaning up trash in her community of Skaulo with her family to keep the area cleaner.
Ell decided to take a proactive approach to keeping the recycle bin area clean. She purchased two trash pickers and brought her children to help pick up trash in the area. They went there almost daily. Not only did this keep the area clean but it also gave her children something to work on.
She left the trash pickers close to the recycle bins and let local residents know that they are welcome to use them to pick up trash whenever they have time. Additionally she left a piece of paper on a bulletin board close by where people are welcome to write their names after they have helped clean up.
Ell filmed a video of herself talking about cleaning up the area and posted it to a Facebook group for Gällivare kommun. It quickly gained much support and in no time an NSD reporter reached out to do a feature story. To view the story click this link, a video can also be viewed at this link.
