Americans Sweden recently hosted its first in-person meet and greet meetings in northern Sweden to connect with Americans in the region. The gatherings were a success!
The first meeting was hosted on July 8, 2023 at the Pajala Marknad in Pajala, one of the largest summer markets in the far north of Sweden.
Americans Sweden founder Lauren Ell planned to attend the market with her family and thought it would be interesting to host an Americans Sweden meet and greet to see if any Americans came out of the woodwork. To her surprise, three smiling Americans showed up at the coffee shop where the gathering took place. They were happy to connect with other Americans and chatted about life near Pajala and how they came to live in Sweden.
The second meet and greet was held on July 18, 2023 in Luleå, the largest city in the far north of Sweden. The meeting was held at a cafe in the city center. Two Americans showed up and were happy to talk about how they have been coping with life in Sweden and where they are from in the US.
Many Americans followed up online that they were not able to attend but hope there is another Americans Sweden gathering in Luleå in the future.
Ell is glad there has been a positive response to the in-person gatherings and hopes to host more in the future. Currently Americans Sweden hosts a monthly online meet and greet for Americans living throughout the country, but so far there has not been much interest.
Regardless, it is wonderful to host meet and greets for Americans outside of Sweden’s major cities and to provide Americans the opportunity to connect and discuss life living abroad.
