Calling for transparency from the U.S. Embassy in Sweden

An event called “Democracy in Action: Insights into the 2024 Presidential Election” was co-hosted by the organization American Club of Sweden and U.S. Embassy in Sweden in mid-January 2024 at the Scandic Grand Central in Stockholm.

The event was “invite-only” and was not mentioned by the embassy whatsoever on its social media. American Club of Sweden posted photos of the event afterwards on Instagram and provided details below in italic:

The U.S.Embassy Sweden and the American Club of Sweden held this special event: Democracy in Action: Insights into the 2024 U.S. Presidential Election.

It was an enlightening, informative and purpose-filled event with our guest Speaker and panelists.

          We would like to thank:
Mark Evans, Deputy Chief of Mission, U.S. Embassy Stockholm

          Our Main speaker:
Karin Henriksson, Journalist and author, based in Washington DC

Our Moderator: Jakob Stenberg, Journalist and producer of the podcast Kongressen – Amerikansk politik påsvenska

          Our Panelists:
Dag Blanck, Professor of North American Studies at Uppsala University
Alexander Lange, President of The American Club of Sweden

And Scandic Grand Central for hosting this event.

A recording of the event was not provided to the public. American Club of Sweden did not reply to American Sweden’s inquiries about a recording being available. As of yet no one other than who attended (through invitation only) knows what was said about the election.

It is appalling that the U.S. Embassy, a government agency serving Americans, would host a closed door discussion regarding the upcoming election and release no information about it whatsoever. Selected journalists and professors were invited yet American voters are left wondering what was said?

Americans Sweden calls for transparency from the U.S. Embassy in Sweden. Americans deserve to be better served by a government agency and to know what is said about elections.
