Americans Sweden Lauren Ell in Dagens Nyheter

Americans Sweden was recently featured in Dagens Nyheter, one of the largest media outlets in Sweden, on November 30, 2024.

The piece was mainly about the life of Lauren Ell, the founder of Americans Sweden, who has lived in Skaulo, Sweden since 2016 with her Swedish partner.

The reporter was interested to know how Ell came to live in a small community like Skaulo and what the organization Americans Sweden offered.

Ell shared that it was difficult living in such a small community in the far north, commenting on the snowy weather and poor social atmosphere. She is thankful that the local church offers a weekly playtime for small children that allows more social contact in the area between children and parents outside of school.

Additionally she noted most American oriented organizations are located in the big cities, such as Stockholm Göteborg and Malmö. These organizations do not venture out of the city much, so Ell created Americans Sweden to be a more digital oriented group to reach out to Americans in rural Sweden.

Ell also mentioned that living in Sweden was never her goal and that she has lived longer abroad than she originally intended due to having children.
