Major international media outlet The World published a piece on November 30, 2023 discussing the antisocial climate in Sweden. Americans Sweden’s founder Lauren Ell was featured in the piece.
The piece focused on a social campaign called “Säg hej!” (“Say hi!”) that is currently being hosted by Luleå municipality in Sweden. The campaign has received worldwide media attention as people are amazed that a campaign is needed to encourage people to communicate with one another.
A reporter who works for The World reached out to Ell to gain perspective on the social atmosphere in Sweden from the experience of an immigrant.
In the article Ell is featured alongside Åsa Koski, a social strategist working with Luleå municipality, as well as Erik Gandini, a Swedish Italian filmmaker who produced the controversial film The Swedish Theory of Love (2015).
